Tonight I meditated for around 20 minutes after a long day. I was distracted. I think I started over around 20 times. Often, this kind of meditation - good effort - helps with attentiveness tomorrow. Let's see. I'll get back to you on that.

Dear Jonathan,
I've enjoyed reading your blog entries this past month....
Thank you Sharon. I have that quote up in my office! I really like it, though agree...
Thanks Emily. I did ashtanga yoga for a year and loved it, but I just can't find...
Thanks Andrea. I like the idea of a seeing meditation. I'll try it!
Priscilla, I remember taking NJ transit and watching my brain race around! It was so...

I just quoted William James
I just quoted William James in a comment on another blog, but your blog brings a different of his quotes to mind: "We measure ourselves by many standards, our strength and intelligence, our wealth, even our good luck are things which warm our heart and make us feel ourselves a match for life. But deeper than all such things and able to suffice unto itself without them is the sense of the amount of effort we can put forth. One who can make none is but a shadow. One who can make much is a hero." Of course we would say it needs to be right effort, not strained or judgmental. But beginning again captures that quite nicely I think!
We think alike (or at least read the same things)!
Thank you Sharon. I have that quote up in my office! I really like it, though agree that it can feel judgmental (who wants to be a shadow?), which is why I shied away from looking at it in recent years; but I think I'm now coming back to it with fresh eyes.
I hope you are well. Thanks for inviting me to the challenge, which I'm really enjoying (if not always blogging).
