What struck me about the meditation today is upon reflection, I am always sure to be busy while I eat. I rarely take time to chew well, look at the food carefully, or smell the food. Often I sit on the internet reading articles while I mindlessly shove food into my mouth. Similar to the walking meditation, eating meditation helped me to see how I can be more mindful in every day activities.
I followed Sharon’s meditation and become quite immersed in focusing on the simple action of chewing and swallowing. I could relate when Sharon talked about not being quite fulfilled when we eat mindlessly. I often come away from a meal, wanting more or craving something. The experience of eating meditation helped me feel more fulfilled when I was done. There was a calmness about the experience. I imagine doing that daily and how much it would transform my meals and my life.
