After I listened for the second time to todays exercise on compassion, the following finally sunk in here with me.
When I notice in direct experience internal fear, anger, envy, delusion, hatred, desire, greed, or doubt – I perceive and see clearly that these are states of suffering.
I also sense how compassion – internally co-arising with one of these states – has a very soothing effect, and thus the suffering gradually ceases.
What I missed until now was, that fear, anger, envy, delusion, hatred, desire, greed, or doubt – noticed externally at others, is suffering, too.
To understand clearly that suffering can be noticed either internally and / or externally sort of “opened up a gate” for the arising of compassion for others.
Lovingkindness and compassion are the basis for wise, powerful, sometimes gentle, and sometimes fierce actions that can really make a difference — in our own lives and those of others. ~ from todays exercise
I am very much looking forward to experience meeting others with a new approach by responding with compassion rather than with auto-pilot-reactivty.
