People who care for people play a vital role in our communities, whether in intimate family circles, larger social networks, or the wide array of helping professions in healthcare, education, social justice and more. Often it is caregivers who support the front lines of our society: helping those who face challenges on a daily basis. However, this support can come at a high personal cost, leading to frustration, exhaustion, and a fast track to burnout.
How do we balance the desire to help others with our own needs? How do we have compassion for ourselves as well as others? How do we infuse our actions with the wisdom that we must do our best and we’re not in control of the unfolding of events, of the choices of others, of the rhythm of healing or the pace of change? Sharon Salzberg and The Holistic Life Foundation offer a restorative weekend retreat exploring the immense resilience of the human spirit, and how to find greater balance when serving others. Recharge physically, mentally and emotionally in a community of caretakers from all walks of life with meditation, yoga and contemplative practices.
Sharon Salzberg has been teaching meditation since the 1970s and delights in bringing lovingkindness and mindfulness techniques specifically to caregivers, change-makers and social justice workers. The Holistic Life Foundation (HLF) has been serving Baltimore’s underserved communities since 2001 with high quality programming focusing on yoga, holistic health, environmental advocacy, sustainability and interconnectedness.
Now for their third year together, Sharon and the HLF join the Garrison Institute to offer a refuge for those who try to be of help in the world by caring for others. Join them for a restorative weekend retreat to develop the skills needed to move towards deeper care, both for ourselves and for others. No prior meditation or yoga experience is necessary to attend, retreat is open to anyone who cares for others. A variety of scholarships are now available for this retreat: Hemera Education Fellowship Scholarships Available, and Hemera Healthcare Fellowship Scholarships Available.
