Sharon returns to the Insight Meditation Society for her annual Metta Retreat in Barre, MA. Registration is now open for this retreat. Metta is the Pali word for friendship or lovingkindness. It is taught as a meditation that cultivates our natural capacity for an open and loving heart. With its roots in practices said to have been taught by the Buddha himself, metta is traditionally offered along with meditations that enrich compassion, joy in the happiness of others and equanimity. These practices lead to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness and a greater ability to love.
Due to the popularity of this retreat, admission is by lottery. All registrations received by November 12, 2019 will be included in the lottery. Those not confirmed by lottery, as well as any late registrations, will be placed on a wait list. If you applied for this retreat both of the past two years (i.e. the 2018 and 2019 Metta Retreats) and were not confirmed, you are eligible for special consideration this time, provided you register and notify us, prior to the lottery deadline, that you missed out twice previously. Because IMS anticipates registrations for this course to be high, we will conduct an initial lottery for a select number of spaces, specifically for those who have unsuccessfully applied twice before. We will then conduct a second lottery to fill the retreat from all remaining registrations.
This silent retreat, open to both new and experienced meditators, will include instructions for sitting and walking meditation practice, Q&A, talks about the teachings and meetings with the teachers. An optional daily period of mindful movement will be offered by Sabra Saperstein. All are welcome! Sharon Salzberg will offer a daily guided meditation and Q&A in the meditation hall. Please note she will not be scheduling meetings with participants or offering evening Dharma talks during this course.
This program qualifies for continuing education credits for psychologists, social workers and nurses. Please check our IMS CE page for more information.
