Insight Meditation Society • DIRECT PATH TO HAPPINESS IV • Virtual Retreat with Sylvia Boorstein

March 24 - March 25

The Buddha identified ten qualities of character that were necessary for the development of an awakened life. Today, the cultivation of these ten virtues is more important than ever as we individually and collectively seek to navigate an increasingly complex world. This March, join Sylvia Boorstein and Sharon Salzberg for the fourth gathering in a series of special events exploring the ten virtues. In Part IV of A Direct Path to Happiness, we focus on the qualities of determination, lovingkindness, and equanimity.

To have a sense of a path is to have a north star to help us navigate our lives – our choices, our relationships, our actions. It’s not a model of perfectionism, by means of which we punish ourselves for not doing enough or being enough. In contrast, inspiration, resilience, and compassion for ourselves and others underlie our efforts. Determination is the ability to prioritize what we most deeply care about, and to remember it even in times of adversity. Lovingkindness is a profound realization of connection to ourselves and others. Equanimity is the voice of wisdom, bringing greater balance and perspective to how we live. Together, Sylvia, Sharon, and the community of attendees will explore the qualities of determination, lovingkindness, and equanimity through dialogue, sitting and walking meditation, and question and answer sessions.

This special event is open to people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and experience levels. This program will be recorded and made available for on-demand viewing after the live sessions. On-demand videos will be available for 90 days following the live event.
