The Penn Program for Mindfulness will host Sharon Salzberg for two events that will explore how you can truly engage with your present experience and create deeper love relationships with yourself, your partner, friends, family, and life itself. Ms. Salzberg will also talk about her new book “Real Love: The Art of Mindful Connection”. This program is open to the public, no mindfulness experience necessary.
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: Rubinstein Auditorium, Smilow Center for Translational Research: Penn Medicine – University City, Philadelphia, PA
Ms. Salzberg will be speaking on the topic of her new book, Real Love: The Art of Mindful Connection. According to Ms. Salzberg, “we yearn for connection with others — but our minds get in the way, constantly spinning judgments about how we are fundamentally alienated from one another. Sharon Salzberg will discuss how with core mindfulness and lovingkindness techniques, as well as other meditation exercises, we can see through layers of habit – whether they are rooted in fear, self-condemnation or other mental conditioning – and find a truer meaning of love for ourselves, our loved ones, those we don’t know but with whom we share this planet – and for all beings everywhere.
9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Location: Ibrahim Theater, International House – University City, Philadelphia, PA
Sharon Salzberg has taught lovingkindness meditation all over the world, and in her newest book she encourages us to strip away layers of negative habits and obstacles, helping us to experience authentic, love-based, direct experience, rather than preconceptions. Sharon will guide us in dispelling cultural and emotional habits and directing focused care and attention so we can recapture the essence of what it is to love and be loved. With positive reflections and practices, she will teach us how to shift the responsibilities of the love that we give and receive to rekindle the powerful healing force of true connection. This half day program will include a combination of talks, guided meditation and direction for practice to carry forth the lessons of the day into our daily lives. Sharon’s book will be available for purchase on-site.
