This is my first meditation challenge with Sharon and my first post, and I’m thrilled to be sharing this whole experience with all of you. My name is Miriam, and I live on Long Island in NY. I started attending yoga classes about a year ago at a new studio and I loved it so I joined. Every class begins with lying down in a restful pose and listening to our breathing. This was a good jumping off point, but really sitting and meditating is much different. What I find most challenging is to get into a routine – I think it’s even harder than really focusing on the breath without my mind wandering off!
Sharon has a unique, simple and effective way of teaching meditation. I love the way she explained in her blog about concentrating on the breath and it’s relationship to the thoughts that naturally wander into our minds. “Our goal is not to block thoughts or annihilate them. Our goal is to develop a more spacious relationship to them…”
I’ve never heard it put quite like this before and it’s the best explanation I can think of. I think we’re in good hands.
Mindfully yours (or at least trying to be), Miriam.
