This one-of-a-kind weekend retreat allows participants to delve deeper into the practices of kirtan, meditation and yoga. Each morning begins with yoga classes led by Lily Cushman, followed by group chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa led by Nina Rao and friends. Following this is a early afternoon Meditation session with Sharon with time for practice as well as teaching. The afternoons feature the workshop segment of the program with both KD, Sharon and Bob, in which they share their own experiences about the spiritual path and open things up question and answers. An enemy – whether within, in the shape of a habitual, painful mind state, or without – as someone for whom we steadily feel antipathy or fear, marks the edge between limited lovingkindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity and the potential boundlessness of these qualities. In this evening’s talk Sharon will explore inner and outer enemies, look at the fear, anger and anguish generated by being stuck in a mode of “us” and “them”, and focus on the liberation we are capable of. There will be periods of dialogue, discourse, and meditation practice. Suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators.
Sharon Salzberg is a central figure in the field of meditation, a world-renowned teacher and NY Times bestselling author. Lily Cushman is the co-founder and director of the Brooklyn Yoga School: a donation-based yoga center voted “Best of New York” by New York Magazine in 2011. She has been teaching yoga for 10+ years and practicing daily since her teens. She serves as the Executive Assistant to meditation teacher and NYT bestselling author, Sharon Salzberg and worked for many years for world-renowned chanter, Krishna Das. A longtime musician herself, Lily found a natural home in the practices of Bhakti Yoga: chanting mantras in the traditional call and response style.
